Field trips

Las Aguilas

If you like walking with dinosaurs, the Las Aguilas locality is the right place for you to go to. This site is remarkable for its abundance in late Campanian dinosaur bones and track ways.

Vallecillo (Nuevo León)

This post-symposium fieldtrip brings you to the plattenkalk quarries of Vallecillo, famous for its complete early Turonian sediment record and the many exquisitely well preserved marine vertebrates, among them fishes, turtles, basal mosasauroids and the last pliosaurs in North America.

Cuatro Cienegas (2 days)

Post-symposium excursion to an oasis in the desert, where actuogeologic processes of carbonate formation and fossilization can be studied in the field. The Cuatro Cienegas valley is known as the Mexican Galapagos due to the high degree of endemism identified in fishes and reptilians, but also in cactaceans. The area is also famous for its sweet water stromatolithes and the impressive gipsum dunes, the second largest in the Americas.
